LAMORINDA, CA State schools Superintendent Tony Thurmond named an additional 121 schools including 28 in the greater Bay Area as 2021 California Distinguished Schools including Acalanes, Campolindo, and Miramonte high schools. The award honors schools who have made improvements in test scores, suspension rates, and conditions and climate. The state originally honored 102 schools March 18, but after further review of the data added the additional schools. Our thanks go to the entire communities surrounding these schools, including the teachers, administrators, and classified employees as well as the students and their families who, through teamwork, all accomplished this impressive achievement together, Thurmond said in a statement released Tuesday by the California Department of Education.

Then came the summer and fall, when wildfire smoke blanketed Moraga for weeks at a time. The smoke was worse than the cold, he said, not able to swim for several days.
But he pressed on, knowing that the effort he was putting into it paled in comparison to what cancer patients face.

MORAGA, Calif. (KGO) California wildlife officials announced on Friday that they have confirmed through DNA testing that a single coyote is responsible for three separate attacks on people in two East Bay communities.
One of the animal attacks sent a Moraga man to the hospital with a serious leg wound earlier this month.
Kenji Sytz recalls he felt the sharp pain in his leg as he was in the midst of an early morning workout at Moraga s Campolindo High School.
