State Rep. Jim Kasper has anything to say about it,
North Dakota will be added to the list.
Earlier this month, Kasper, a Republican who has represented District 46 (Fargo) since 2001, has introduced
House Concurrent Resolution 3012, which seeks to put a measure on the 2022 general election ballot to ask residents whether or not they want to permit online poker. The measure has already shown bi-partisan support in the House.

Online poker launched in Michigan Friday morning after state regulators approved a gaming license for the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. The tribe, which runs Odawa Casino in Petoskey, partnered with PokerStars to operate online poker in Michigan. With the Michigan Gaming Control Board officially giving them an online license, PokerStars launched its Michigan platform at 11 a.m., according to a report from The Detroit News. Along with the tribe, the board awarded licenses to Detroit’s Greektown Casino, which partnered with Penn Gaming’s Barstool Sportsbook & Casino to offer online gambling. Fox Bet, PokerStars’ sports betting platform, also launched with the license given to the Odawa Indians. Landmark Ruling for US Online Casino Prospects
You might have realized that there are some states where residents are allowed to play at online casinos. Years ago, this was not possible and the federal government cracked down hard on online poker operators in the early-2000s by invoking the 1961 Wire Act. However, the situation is changing and the emergence of states with legal casino sites could soon break the flood gates and lead to regulation across the entire nation.
Resolution in Wire Act Dispute
While under the Obama administration, the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) issued a controversial opinion in 2011. Back then, the OLC stated that the 1961 Wire Act, which was been used to proclaim the illegality of online gambling at the federal level, only applies to sporting events and not online gambling.
Penn Sports/Barstool Sportsbook and Casino was also given the go-ahead to launch
Feb. 1.
“We welcome the addition of Odawa Casino, Poker Stars, Fox Bet, and Barstool Casino to Michigan’s growing online gaming and sports wagering market,” MGCB executive director
Richard S. Kalm said in a news release. “Their participation will generate revenue to support education, tribal communities and the city of Detroit.”
