GUJRAT: Senior serving and retired officers of administration and police have expressed their reservations at the action the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken against some government officials in the wake of Daska NA-75 by-polls fiasco, saying it seems to be “against the norms of justice”.
Declaring the by-poll null and void, the ECP ordered the establishment division to suspend Sialkot deputy commissioner (DC), district police officer (DPO) and Daska assistant commissioner (AC) from service. It also ordered the Punjab government to transfer the Gujranwala commissioner and regional police officer (RPO), besides suspending two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs).

LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said imposition of any clause of the Charter of Democracy by any institution in the present scenario will be wrong, while the party could consider “broader electoral reforms” through the parliament after the Senate elections.
He also said if the establishment seemed neutral (in Senate poll), it should be welcomed.
“We desire implementation of the Charter of Democracy. But, if any undemocratic institution imposes any clause of it on us, then it will be wrong,” he said in a reference to the observation of a Supreme Court bench seized with the hearing of the method for voting in the Senate polls due on March 3.

LAHORE:
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Thursday that the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) decision to support each other s candidates in Senate polls had turned the political field upside down.
The PPP leader observed this during a press conference held along with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz, following a meeting of the two party leaders at the Jati Umra in Lahore.
The meeting came as both the opposition parties and ruling government finalised candidates for Senate polls, scheduled to be held in about a week’s time now.
