BHUBANESWAR: From enforcing the lockdown to distributing free food, oximeters and medicines among the poor and needy besides maintaining law and order, the Odisha Police have not shied away from responding to the call of duty in this hour of crisis.
To ensure that the poor and destitute do not go hungry during the lockdown, they have joined hands with a number of social organisations and philanthropists and are providing food, free of cost. Apart from this, the police have been distributing biscuits, bread, banana and dry food among the poor in many districts.

BHUBANESWAR: The Puri district police on Friday arrested a science graduate for allegedly running an unauthorised Covid testing centre-cum-laboratory in Kakatpur area. The accused was identified as Prakash Dash (36).
Police sealed Dash’s fake laboratory and seized some kits that he had procured to conduct rapid antigen test (RAT). Dash is a laboratory technician and did his diploma in lab management, the police said. He had been running the fake Covid testing laboratory for the last few weeks. Police said Dash cheated people on the pretext of conducting rapid antigen test. He was charging Rs 400 for each test.

BHUBANESWAR: In the times of despair due to the Covid pandemic, a constable of Odisha police has turned out to be a messiah by donating blood to help a pregnant woman during her delivery at Puri hospital on Tuesday. The woman, Tunamani Mallick (34), and the newborn are fine.
Mallick’s family members were frantically looking for a rare B negative blood group for her delivery when Puri police promptly came to her rescue and rushed constable Abhishek Mahapatra to the hospital to donate his blood. Though she was not infected by Covid-19, some donors reportedly refused to visit the hospital for fear they might get infected.

The Odisha Police on Tuesday fined an on-duty traffic constable Rs 2,000 for not wearing a mask.
Puri SP Dr Kanwar Vishal Singh said, On being brought to our notice, we have fined our own traffic constable Rs 2,000 for not wearing a mask. And he, as a responsible citizen, has paid. Wear Mask always or pay the fine. There is no alternative.
Police at a check post in Pipili
BHUBANESWAR: Puri district police on Monday seized Rs 50 lakh in unaccounted cash from two persons in Pipili, where the bypoll would be held on April 17. The BJD alleged the money belonged to the BJP.
Police said the two persons, who belonged to Balanga area under Pipili constituency, were carrying the cash in a bag. “The two were asked to stop for routine check at Pipili toll gate. But they sped away.
Our personnel gave chase and intercepted them near Tarakaja Chowk and seized the cash from their possession. Further legal action is being initiated as per the protocol of the election commission,” Puri superintendent of police Kanwar Vishal Singh said.
