On Jan. 28, houseless leaders from across the Kansas City metro met to officially organize a homeless union. Kansas City Homeless Union will work to ensure more protection and bargaining rights for unhoused people in the Kansas City area.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â The Kansas City metro is experiencing dangerously cold temperatures. However, that s not stopping one organization from helping people experiencing homelessness.
Luke Banks is a member of the member of the Kansas City Homeless Union and has experienced homelessness for four years, enduring dangerous weather before. I don t have to be homeless right now, but you know what, this is my calling to help people and this is what Iâm going to do until the job is done, Banks said.

Here s a link and tonight s testimony advocating for denizens of local streets with a name check that might be familiar to longtime news-watchers . . . The best approach is a direct approach, Qadafi said. We can form our own union and deal with people directly.
The group wrote out their demands, including one solution that would use funding to buy Land Bank homes for transitional and permanent housing and employ people without homes to bring those properties up to code.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â To send a message to city hall, a newly formed homeless union in Kansas City is camping out in front of the building â and they say they re not going anywhere.
Qadafi, who goes only by his first name, is the spokesperson for the Kansas City Homeless Union. He said people experiencing homelessness do not have a seat at the table, and they re fed up with city officials making decisions for them without their input.
