Inside the old Garrison School in Liberty, Missouri, a certain group of children were protected from the ills of society. Dr. Cecelia Robinson is the protector of their story.
âA people who have no knowledge of their history is like a tree with no roots, Robinson said.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Tonika Brockman faced challenges climbing the corporate ladder. She overcame those challenges through education, getting creative and being client-centered.
Now, Brockman is Liberty Bank s Regional Vice President for all of Kansas and Missouri. It s a career she calls her purpose. I decided that I wanted to come to Liberty Bank last March at the height of the Black Lives Matter Movement. From a personal standpoint, it became very disheartening as I moved up in the ranks of banking and supported a more affluent clientele that there was no minority in my book of business, Brockman said.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â The appearance of Kansas City, Missouri, can be credited in part to the design of buildings by Nelle Peters. She was really a Kansas City architect, so she really shaped the way that city looked, Elizabeth Engel, with the State Historical Society of Missouri, said.
According to the State Historical Society of Missouri, Peters was born in Niagra, North Dakota, on December 11, 1884.
According to Engel, Peters experienced difficulty starting her career in a male dominated industry.

Clara Stover helped launch the Kansas City-based candy company that is Russell Stover today.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Russell Stover may be the namesake for the Kansas City, Missouri-based chocolate company, but his wife, Clara, played a big role in the companyâs success.
Christi Jones, the direct to consumer program manager for Russell Stover Chocolates, helped 41 Action News trace Claraâs role in creating the company.
âNot only was Clara the founder, but she was a pioneer more than just in the chocolate business,â Jones pointed out.
She explained Clara and Russell met in Iowa City, Iowa, in the early 1900s. Russell was a candy salesman. Clara dreamed of opening her own candy store. She spent years tinkering with her recipes in their kitchens as the Stovers moved from city to city for Russellâs jobs.
