Even so, Robert Moore’s “Sonic Spectrum,” a show as admirably accessible to the masses as it remains intensely personal to its creator/host, has spanned more than 19 years at three successive Kansas City radio stations, including the show’s latest incarnation from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturdays on listener-supported public station KTBG-FM, 90.9 The Bridge. “Schools shouldn’t be for color. They should be for the children.”
These were the words of school teacher Corinthian Nutter during her legendary fight against the state of Kansas to integrate South Park Elementary School in Merriam.
Nutter linked arms with white Jewish housewife Esther Brown in the 1940s to give Black children, as Brown put it, “a fair shake.” Through threats and jeering, the unlikely pair left a lasting mark on Merriam.

To say that women have contributed to the history of beer would be a radical
understatement.
Did you know that the ancient Sumerians venerated Ninkasi, the goddess of beer, who along with her eight siblings was tasked with healing the Sumerian god of water who was on his deathbed? There’s even a hymn commemorating Ninkasi that dates back thousands of years, which also functioned as a beer recipe.
