A Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Tuesday fixed February 2, 2021, for hearing of a suit to stop the Kano State Government from borrowing N300bn from China for a light rail project.
The plaintiffs, the Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability and Kabiru Dakata, prayed the court to halt the move to obtain the loan from China.
The eight respondents in the suit are, the Kano State Government, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, Kano State House of Assembly, Central Bank of Nigeria, Ministry of Finance, Debt Management Office, China EXIM Bank and China Embassy.

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has fixed February 2, 2021, for mention in a suit to stop Kano State government from borrowing N300 billions from China for a light rail project.
It would, however, be recalled that the Kano state government is making efforts to obtain N300 billion loan from China Exim Bank to finance a light rail project, which many have criticized and opposed to, including a petition sent to the Debt Management Office by a concerned group led by Alhaji Bashir Tofa.
Meanwhile, in an interim injunction filed by Center for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA) and Kabiru Saidu Dakata, the two plaintiffs prayed the court to stop the move to obtain the loan from China.

The Kano State Government has impounded a truck laden with alcoholic drinks worth over N25m.
Nabilusi Abubakar, Public Relations Officer of the State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), disclosed this in a statement.
The agency is a member of the state’s task force on unwholesome products, drug abuse and expired products.
Abubakar said the truck, which was intercepted around 2:30 am on Thursday along Hadeja Road in Kano metropolis, was on its way to Bello Road to offload its contents when the personnel of the agency, following an intelligence report, intercepted the vehicle.
Kano State House of Assembly has passed into law the 2021 budget estimate presented by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The estimate which is amounted to be N177bn scaled third reading during plenary on Wednesday presided by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari.
Presenting the bill the leader of the House Hon. Labaran Abdul Madari said the Assembly has approved N177 Billion Naira as the 2021 budget estimate after some adjustments.
The House also passes into law the 2020 supplementary budget of N152billion naira.
In another development, Kantun Kwari Market Traders Association and Abubakar Rimi Market of Sabon Gari has called on the State Assembly to look into their observations and views on the laws presented concerning the present situation of their markets.

The Kano State House of Assembly yesterday elected Mr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari from Makoda state constituency as its new Speaker.
Chidari emerged the Speaker following his nomination by a member representing Wudil state constituency in the Assembly, Abdullahi Achika, and seconded by another member, Albasu Sunusi Usman Bataiya.
Similarly, the Assembly has nominated and elected Mr. Zubairu Hamza Massu, a member representing Sumaila state constituency as the new Deputy Speaker, while Labaran Abdul Madari returned as the new majority leader.
Also, it nominated Mr. Abdullahi Iliyasu Yaryasa as the deputy majority leader while Ayuba labaran Durum, the chief whip, a member representing Kabo, and the majority whip of the Assembly, Hayatu Musa Dorawar Sallau, retain their positions.
