State to give nonprofit funds to help with affordable units in Waterbury

Republican-American 176 WATERBURY A nonprofit aiming to transform a blighted office building and several vacant lots along Linden Street into a 44-apartment development will get a $3.7 million boost from the state. Gov. Ned Lamont announced Monday that $49 million in state funding for affordable housing development is set to be approved by the Bond Commission. The funding requests are on the agenda of a commission meeting this Friday. That funding will be split among 16 projects in various municipalities, including plans by nonprofit Neighborworks New Horizons to build two buildings with 44 apartments on lots bordering Linden Street. The project is estimated to cost $16 million. The nonprofit expects to break ground within a year.
