Saskatchewan Has a New Senator

By Ryan Young Jul 29, 2021 | 4:38 PM New Governor-General Mary Simon has appointed five new independent Senators, to fill vacancies across the country, including one for Saskatchewan. David Arnot, the province’s newest member of the Senate, is a former Crown prosecutor and provincial court judge, who became Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, in 2009. He also worked as the federal Treaty Commissioner for the Province of Saskatchewan provincial court judge. In a release from the Prime Minister’s office, it is noted that each new Senator was recommended by the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments, to reflect the nation’s diversity, ensure their independence, and tackle the “various challenges and opportunities facing the country.”
