While there are encouraging signs on the ice for a team that has resided at or near the bottom of the league standings since getting within a goal of the 2017 Stanley Cup final, Senators owner Eugene Melnyk continues to make waves off it.
Melnyk, however, is not commenting on separate lawsuits related to a Caribbean vacation he took over Christmas during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The statements of claim filed in a Florida court last month by his travelling companions against five defendants allege the trip aboard a $500,000-per-week yacht quickly deteriorated into disagreements with the captain, reckless conduct and abuse that resulted in panic attacks on rough seas.

The popular Stars on Ice show returns to the road this year, arriving in Ottawa on Oct. 10 for a show at the Canadian Tire Centre one of the first in-person indoor events to be announced for 2021.
After a pandemic-induced hiatus, the first in its 34-year history, the new production, entitled Journey, is described as an “on-ice visual exploration of the myriad of feelings experienced over the past year.”
OTTAWA Some of Canada s figure skating greats will return to the ice at Canadian Tire Centre in October, one of the first events scheduled to have fans in Ottawa since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Stars on Ice returns to the ice this fall after a 17-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The new production, entitled Journey, is scheduled to visit Ottawa on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. The 2021 tour cast boasts a lineup that includes four-time World champion Kurt Browning, three-time World champion Elvis Stojko, Olympic gold medallist Kaetlyn Osmond, World champion Jeffrey Buttle and Olympic gold, silver and bronze medalist Meagan Duhamel.

In the United States, hospitals are big business. In most cities, health care is seen as a pillar of the local economy, alongside technology, financial services, manufacturing and tourism. But in Canada, because of our universal, publicly funded system, we think of our medical facilities as government institutions. We forget that even though they aren’t private companies, our hospitals are enormous drivers of economic activity.
So while it may not have the explosive growth of a start-up, nor create the shareholder wealth of a publicly traded technology company, the planned new Civic campus of The Ottawa Hospital could be the biggest local business story of the next decade.
