The Canada Council for the Arts presents Impostor Cities at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, from May 22 to November 21, 2021.
The exhibition is curated by David Theodore of McGill University and realized by Montréal architecture and design practice T B A / Thomas Balaban Architect. The official Canadian participation is commissioned and generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, led by Tania Miller, will perform the world premiere of JUNO-winning composer Vivian Fung s Flute Concerto Storm Within, featuring VSO principal flutist Christie Reside as soloist, on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 7:30pm PT. The live streamed performance, titled Sun and Storm, also includes Schubert s Fifth Symphony and is available on the VSO s virtual venue, TheConcertHall.ca, presented by TELUS.

In 1936, singer Bobby Darin, whose real name was Walden Robert Cassotto, was born in New York City. Darin s big break came in 1958 when he wrote and recorded Splish Splash, which reached No. 3 on the U.S. charts and sold a million copies. His other hits included Queen of the Hop and Mack the Knife. At the beginning of the 60s, he made the transition from teen idol to a more mature star who performed in Vegas nightclubs. He died on Dec. 20, 1973, after heart surgery.
In 1943, Jack Bruce, one of the most influential bass guitarists in rock, was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland. His bass playing and tenor vocals with the group Cream in the 1960s were a great influence on the heavy metal groups that followed. It took a long time before Allison Russell was ready to sing her own full story. Once she was, the songs came rushing out.
Her solo debut, “Outside Child,” speaks bluntly about sexual abuse by her adoptive father. She spells it out, over a steadfast Memphis soul beat, in the first song she wrote for the album, “4th Day Prayer”: “Father used me like a wife/Mother turned the blindest eye/Stole my body, spirit, pride/He did, he did each night.”
