Canada Basketball Statement on FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers Sanctions 01/21/21
TORONTO, Ont. (January 20, 2021) – Canada Basketball is disappointed with the sanctions levied against our national federation by the FIBA Disciplinary Panel as a result of our non-participation in the second window of the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers in November 2020.
In the midst of an unprecedented global pandemic that has claimed the lives of over 2 million people around the world, and infected 96 million more, never did we think we’d be forced to make a decision between the well-being of players and staff, and sanctioning for an inability to safely participate in an international competition.
The 2020-21 NBA season hasn't been particularly great for Toronto Raptors fans, but for fans of Canadian basketball, they've had plenty to cheer about. From SGA to Jamal Murray and even Luguentz Dort, the hope for Canada's Olympic Summer Games bid is looking pretty promising.

Former finance minister Bill Morneau is a hot topic on the Hill again, this time on the lobby circuit, where he’s now officially known as “Bill Morneau, OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation) Nominee.”
Morneau’s former director of operations, Sharan Kaur has been granted a rare exemption under the Lobbying Act to reach out to government officials on behalf of her one-time boss from Nov.10 until March 17, 2021, albeit under strict parameters.
As per the publicly posted notice, Kaur “may only communicate with public office holders from Global Affairs Canada and the Prime Minister’s Office, solely to arrange meetings, or to obtain or provide documents and information regarding [Morneau’s] candidacy as Secretary-General of the OECD.”

As a high schooler, Browne began his basketball journey with Grassroots Canada, an elite AAU program based out of Toronto, ON. Playing in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) circuit provided Browne with the exposure he needed to be recruited to a NCAA Division I school. When playing in a Las Vegas Tournament, Browne was recognized by the New Mexico State University Aggies of the Western Atlantic Conference. Browne would go on to accept a scholarship from the Aggies, achieving a lifetime goal.
