The grant to Catholic Charities USA from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy will enable aid to be delivered over the next 12 to 18 months in Colorado, California, Oregon and Washington. “It was natural for us to go to Catholic Charities given their expertise in disaster case management and given their multistate presence as well as their deep, deep understanding of local communities and the individuals in those communities,” Regine Webster, center vice president, told Catholic News Service Feb. 11.

Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington on Wednesday highlighted its new project for families struggling to maintain homes. Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington laid the cornerstone of their newest property, a supported community for families struggling with homelessness. Sarah Yerden, the director of marketing for Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington said the complex will provide far more than basic housing for its residents. She said the facility, named Gonzaga Family Haven, will connect families to mental health, food services and drug and alcohol treatment.

Catholic Charities to end services at temporary family warming center due to decreased demand

Less families are seeking emergency shelter services in Spokane, Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington announced Friday, detailing a decision to halt services at its temporary warming center and re-allocate funds to better help people experiencing homelessness in the region. Catholic Charities partnered with Family Promise back in December, 2019, to open a temporary family warming center. Though initially scheduled to operate for four months, the pandemic brought with it a greater need for services and the shelter remained open. The center has cared for 33 families since it opened, and helped 28 people find employment, according to a release.
