SOMERSET Kathy Souza will be the town s newest member of the Board of Selectmen after she won Monday s special election with 57% of the vote.
“I’m thrilled with the results. It was a tough fight, she said. I want to thank Melissa (Terra) for running a clean race.
Souza won 1,200 of the 2,118 ballots cast, beating out her sole opponent, former School Committee member Melissa Terra.
Souza, a leader of the group Save Our Bay Brayton Point and the Director of Environmental Health and Safety at Roger Williams University, ran on increasing the town s economic development and halting the operations of the private company that s currently using the dock at Brayton Point to process and ship scrap metal.
