Small businesses hope overwhelming support will help overcome COVID-19

The Downtown Lynchburg Association released their 2020 annual report to show the impact.
Ashley Kershner, executive director, said small businesses have suffered.
“[With] that said, when we look at our colleagues across the country and what their downtowns are enduring, I’m actually very proud,” said Kershner.
Through their recovery initiative, the association created a gift card program, giving away $45,000 so far to spend at 40 participating businesses. The nonprofit also established takeout patios and other promotional content to help concerned owners.
First group of Jackson General workers get COVID-19 vaccine

The first dose of the Pfizer vaccine was given to several healthcare workers Friday afternoon.
Around 25 workers from different departments at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital lined up anxiously to get the vaccine.
“Without a doubt, this is what we need. It has been such a long time coming,” said West Tennessee Healthcare President and CEO James Ross.
“I’ve seen several pass, then seen a whole lot recover from it and go home, but it’s just sad about how many have passed away from this,” said Lynn Jones, the first person to receive the vaccine in Jackson.
Local children gifted toys, books from Azad s Martial Arts annual Santa s Sleigh project

CHICO, Calif. – Azad s Martial Arts Center is holding its 29th annual Santa s Sleigh project to help children in the community.
Thousands of children in the community have benefitted from this program at Azad s Martial Arts Center.
A big donation of toys and books came to Azad s Santa s Sleigh from Kathy Shaw and Kathy Lovelace. Kathy Lovelace was a Butte College employee and an activist for children in the Butte County area, shared Azad. She passed away a couple of months ago but wanted to make sure local children received all the toys and books she had gathered over the years.
