Over the last year, residents of South Memphis, Tennessee have fought to stop the construction of the Byhalia Connection Pipeline. The companies behind Byhalia promise economic opportunity and neighborhood investment. But members of the community have organized against the further development of oil and gas infrastructure in an area plagued by a cancer risk four times the national average.
In December 2019, Valero Energy and the Texas-based company Plains All American Pipeline announced a joint venture that would run for 49 miles, directly south out of Memphis with a long eastward curve through Mississippi. At the end of the line, Byhalia would connect to an existing pipeline, carrying as much as $21 million dollars
VANCOUVER The BC SPCA is providing funding to 11 animal organizations to help address the issue of feral cat populations throughout the province. The funds are part of the Community Animal Spay and Neuter grant program, which is in its ninth year of creating partnerships across municipalities to reach and rescue more cats and kittens. In a news release, the BC SPCA said efforts to prevent cat overpopulation have been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to delays for spay and neuter surgeries, reduced capacity in staff and volunteers and a limited ability to travel to provide care for cats in need.

The National Garden Scheme has given us a tantalising glimpse of more colourful times to come after releasing this year s programme of Rutland open gardens.
Open gardens were restricted to remote viewings online last year because of lockdown and tier restrictions, but a provisional programme was released last week.
There will be 16 gardens opening in Rutland from March to August, starting with Gunthorpe Hall on Tuesday, March 16.
It includes two new venues - the Old Vicarage in Harringworth, and Robin Hill in Uppingham.

Tributes paid to leading Rutland figure Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) Nigel Sudborough

Tributes have been paid to leading Rutland figure, Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) Nigel Sudborough who died suddenly, aged 72, in Uppingham at the weekend.
Mr Sudborough, from Uppingham, had a distinguished military career in the Royal Air Force,achieving the rank of Air Vice-Marshal, and served many important roles within Rutland after retirement.
Born in Northampton, he attended Oundle School, and joined the RAF at 18 as a navigator radar operator on bombers, later in the famous 617 Squadron, the Dambusters.
He became Officer Commanding at 29 Squadron, RAF Coningsby and spent a year in the Falkland Islands following the conflict for which he was awarded an OBE in 1988.
