PHILADELPHIA, P.A. A men’s shoes and accessories store in Center City, Philadelphia was looted last summer during the Black Lives Matter riots. Owner Steve Jamison, a black man who started Blue Sole Shoes in 2007, did not see it coming.
“I just thought that Philly was different,” he told me. “I thought we would respond in a different way.”
Jamison was at home when people first broke into his store on May 31. His alarm company called him to inform him of a breach. He watched on his surveillance cameras as the front door was broken down.
“It’s just a shock. It’s anger. Fear. You know, worried, concerned,” he said. “All those things came into my mind. It’s my store. It’s my business my livelihood. And all that came into play. Those are the things I thought about.”

Kathy Barnette is running to become the first black Republican Woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate. She is a veteran, an adjunct professor of corporate finance, a regular guest on national TV and radio, and most importantly a mother and a wife. Sean Parnell announced yesterday that he will seek the Republican nomination to replace the retiring Senator Pat Toomey in Washington. One of the big questions is whether or not Conor Lamb will once again stand in his way.
Parnell lost to Lamb by a slim margin in last November’s race for Lamb’s seat in Congress. Lamb has not declared for the Senate but has publicly expressed interest in joining what is becoming a crowded field.
Parnell, a former Army Ranger captain who was wounded in Afghanistan in 2006, joins a Republican field of declared candidates that includes another veteran, Kathy Barnette, along with Jeff Bartos, Sean Gale, and Everett Stern. Others who have expressed interest include two sitting congressmen, Mike Kelly and Guy Reschenthaler, who is also a veteran.
