For Kansas Citians Seeking The Closest Vaccine, Confusion Is Often The Result | KCUR 89 3 - NPR in Kansas City Local news, entertainment and podcasts

Johnson County residents visit Okun Fieldhouse in Shawnee, where COVID-19 vaccinations started in January. As pressure builds to get people vaccinated before the virus’s more transmissible variants take hold, people throughout Kansas City are finding that the criteria for getting a shot are different from state to state, hospital to hospital. It took hours of diligent searching, a late-night tip and many hits on the “refresh” button, but Shawnee, Kansas, resident Kathy Cook managed to get five of her relatives, mostly in their 70s and 80s, appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine. The one exception was her husband, Steve, who has been treated for three years for cancer at the University of Kansas Health System.

What Mom-And-Pop Landlords Can Do To Relieve Eviction Ban Pressure

What Mom-And-Pop Landlords Can Do To Relieve Eviction Ban Pressure February 12, 2021 11:10 AM Natalie Campisi - Forbes Advisor Posted: Updated: February 14, 2021 7:33 AM Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) extended the renter eviction moratorium through March 31, which is good news for renters impacted by Covid-19. But the ban is putting additional pressure on small landlords, known as “mom-and-pop landlords,” struggling to pay their bills. In some states, moratoriums are scheduled to last even longer. California, for example, extended its moratorium to June 31, and New York has pushed its moratorium deadline back until May 1. Around 20% of renter-occupied households, or nearly 10 million households, were behind on rent at the end of January, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The total amount of back rent is unknown, but Moody’s Analytics estimates that delinquent renters owe, on average, about $5,586 each. In

Staffing issues, COVID-19 factors in post office delays - The Ellsworth American

Staffing issues, COVID-19 factors in post office delays ELLSWORTH Back in pre-COVID times, it took two or three days for a piece of mail to reach its destination using the United States Postal Service when sent via its higher-tier “Priority Mail” service. For first-class, incounty mail, one or two days would do. Those same types of mail are now taking much longer in many instances to reach their destinations. Locally, customers are seeing first class and other USPS mail delayed, well after the high-volume holiday season, and newspapers are included. “In recent weeks we have received several reports of newspapers being delivered later than normal,” said Kathy Cook, general manager for The Ellsworth American and Mount Desert Islander. “Our problem, though, is not a local one. Newspapers across the country that rely on the postal service for delivery are experiencing delays.”
