COVID-19 highlights need for global solidarity—DOF

Published December 21, 2020, 2:44 PM The Department of Finance (DOF) said the unprecedented challenge brought by the pandemic underscored the importance of “greater solidarity and stronger collaboration among nations” to overcome the crisis and return to the path of strong global growth.  Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III highlighted the need for all countries to fight a “shared battle” against COVID-19 in his letter to Qatari Ambassador to the Philippines Ali Ibrahim Al-Malki.  MB file In his letter, Dominguez congratulated the State of Qatar on the occasion of its National Day last December 18, which also commemorates the State’s founder, Sheikh Jassem bin Mohammed Al Thani. 

QE Index rises 108 points

QE Index rises 108 points  21 Dec 2020 - 9:04 Sachin Kumar/ The Peninsula Doha: Qatar’s stock market has started the week with strong momentum. The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index jumped 108.5 points, or 1 percent, to close at 10,587.1 points. The index had declined marginally to close at 10,478.6 on Wednesday. There was no trading session on Thursday as the Qatar Stock Exchange was closed due to Qatar National Day official holiday.    In terms of performance of sectoral indices, Insurance, Industrials, Telecom indices led the gains in yesterday’s trade. All Share Industrials Index rose 1.6 percent to close at 3145 points, All Share Insurance Index jumped 1.6 percent to close at 2429 while All Share Telecoms Index closed at 1016 points, after rising 3.2 percent yesterday.

Exhibition by 7 Qatari artists unveiled at Katara Art Center  21 Dec 2020 - 9:20 An exhibition called “Crystal Art” at Katara Art Centre. By Raynald C Rivera | The Peninsula Doha: In celebration of Qatar National Day, a first-of-its-kind group exhibition featuring diverse works by seven Qatar-based artists has been launched at Katara Art Centre. Titled “Crystal Art”, the show displays latest creations by Abdulla Anwari, Ahmad Al Emadi, Bachir Mohamad, Fahad Alobaidly, Lulu M, Mohammed Al Hamadi, and Muna Al Bader who experimented using resin as a major component of their pieces. For this exhibition, Al Emadi is showcasing a series of installations made of clear resin and rug. Titled “Tezkar” (souvenir), the collection was inspired by the concept of collecting objects during a journey and which tourists are likely to acquire as souvenirs from Qatar, according to the artist.

Syrian Embassy participates in Qatar National Day

Syrian Embassy participates in Qatar National Day  21 Dec 2020 - 8:18 A painting by Syrian artist Akram Sweidan. The Peninsula Doha: The Syrian Embassy in Qatar has presented a painting by Syrian artist Akram Sweidan to Qatar, as part of Qatar National Day celebrations, and in recognition of Qatar’s support for the cause of the Syrian people. The Embassy said in a press statement that the new artwork translates the feelings of the Syrian people towards the brotherly Qatari people for their support and standing with Syria. The painting is made of natural wood using several styles such as Islamic, geometric and dotting motifs which are considered the closest to Damascene art.
