Eid Al Fitr celebrations begin today amid COVID-19 restrictions in the country.
The Government Communications Office (GCO) and the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) have urged the people to follow precautions during the Eid holidays.
“It is vital that precautionary measures continue to be followed during the blessed Eid Al Fitr to ensure the safety of our families and society and to support the ongoing efforts of the State of Qatar in limiting the spread of COVID-19,” said GCO on its Twitter account.
It also reminded people to wear masks and maintain social distancing during prayers at the mosques, and that indoor gatherings are prohibited as well as maximum of five fully vaccinated people are allowed to gather outside. Hamad Medical Corporation Tobacco Control Center, a World Health Organization Collaborating Center, had recently conducted a cross-sectional study to identify the prevalence of tobacco use among adults in Qatar.
Titled ‘Epidemiology of tobacco use in Qatar: Prevalence and its associated factors’, the study identified the prevalence of tobacco use among adults in Qatar to be 25.2 percent.
The study utilized the same methodology as a study undertaken in 2000 that reported a higher prevalence of tobacco smoking of 36.5 percent in Qatar.
