UWI Five Islands seeks to improve male enrollment

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands will be reviewing its degree programmes in an effort to improve the school’s attractiveness to males.
The Director of Academic Affairs at the Antigua-based campus, Dr Curtis Charles, said a lot of young men like to use their hands and he also sees avenues to explore degrees in the field of gaming and animation.
“We are looking at a programme review internally right now, and then also taking that as a real anchor, in terms of what type of degree programmes do we need to have to encourage young men,” he said.

The Pfizer vaccine appears to be the shot that will be provided through the World Health Organisation’s Covax facility during its initial rollout.

Doctor launches web series to address popular health misconceptions

A local medical practitioner is launching an online series geared towards tackling medical misconceptions among residents in Antigua and Barbuda.
Dr Courtney Lewis says while many people traditionally depended on their doctors for medical information, many are turning to social media and online sources for advice.
“It has made it a lot more difficult to streamline or to safeguard where the real, true information is coming from, so anyone without training, without specialisation can just have an opinion [on health matters],” he said. “It’s amazing how many people just pick it up, especially young people.”
