When Subaru unveiled their second-gen BRZ last November, we thought Toyota’s version, the GR 86, would be close behind.
Apparently, we’d have to wait five months, but in the meantime Toyota has been working hard to make the jointly-developed sports car feel more like their own. Now, the GR 86 makes its world debut as the third vehicle in Toyota’s GR lineup, coming after the GR Supra sports coupe and GR Yaris hot hatch.

As with the first generation of the two sports coupes, Toyota and Subaru worked together on the new GR 86 and BRZ, with the two models having a nearly identical appearance, sans some minor details. In Toyota’s case, that meant first and foremost outfitting the GR 86 with the “Functional Matrix” grille similar to the one found on the GR Yaris, while the headlight LED signature is also slightly different compared to the BRZ.

Popular off-roader goes upmarket with premium kit but higher prices and fewer engine options
Rolling into Australian showrooms at a shade under $40,000 from March 2021, the new-generation Subaru Outback brings big equipment, technology and safety upgrades but ditches two engines and is more than $2500 more expensive at the entry level.
The base-grade 2021 Subaru Outback AWD is priced from $39,990 plus on-road costs, representing a $2550 increase over its predecessor, however the new model comes with a wider range of standard kit including a massive 11.6-inch vertically-oriented high-definition central touch-screen system with all the latest smartphone connectivity features.
Following confirmation of the 2021 Subaru Outback for Australia, the local arm has now confirmed the full lineup details, specifications, and prices ahead of its official launch in March.
Three model grades will hit the Aussie market, spanning from the Outback AWD, AWD Sport, and AWD Touring. These will replace the outgoing 2.5i and 2.5i Premium naming structure. All three variants feature a new 2.5-litre flat-four petrol engine, showcasing direct injection. It produces 138kW and 245Nm, up from 129kW/235Nm in the outgoing 2.5i.
Despite overseas markets being offered an even newer 2.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, developing 194kW and 376Nm, Australians will not be offered this unit. PerformanceDrive understands this is because of production-related reasons from the factory in Japan. As a result, the new Outback will be one of the least powerful petrol SUVs in its respective segment.

The Subaru Outback Onyx Edition sport utility for 2020 has to be a blackout driver s dream. More than their preferred cruising at night with interior dash lights turned off so they don t contaminate the barely visible landscape outside, it announces its character at first glance.
Like the distinctive mineral rock that gives it its name, the Outback Onyx edition is a bit of an outsider. Consider the darkened feel – with strong touches of black cladding every visible element – from sultry dark shading on the 18 inch aluminum alloy wheels, mirrors in Crystal Black Silica, grille trim with a muscular black line differentiating it from run-of-the-mill everyone else s bright trim version, all on a Magnetite Gray Metallic body. This isn t a vehicle designed to fit in with the crowd. It s designed to make sure the crowd just gets out of its way without a word.
Subaru has launched the WRX and WRX STI for the new model year, with pricing starting at $27,495 and $37,245 respectively, excluding destination.
The only novelty represents the introduction of keyless entry and go on the Premium trim level, a feature previously reserved for the WRX Limited.
The lineup kicks off with the base variant, offered with a 6.5-inch infotainment system with smartphone integration and Bluetooth, reversing camera, 5.9-inch multi-info LCD display, USB ports, electrically adjustable side mirrors, automatic climate control and several other amenities.
With additional gear, such as the 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, power moonroof, heated front seats, larger infotainment screen, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, the WRX Premium starts at $30,045.
