Kannapolis City Schools to return to Plan B on Feb 16 (updated)

The Kannapolis School Board voted unanimously at Mondayâs monthly meeting to move back into Plan B (partial in-person learning) starting Tuesday, Feb. 16. This move will be effective for the remainder of the school year, and no further transitions will be made unless COVID-19 numbers rise in the district enough to where there is a necessary move back to an all-remote plan. Governor Roy Cooper urges schools to open for in-person learning

RALEIGH â Gov. Roy Cooper strongly urged school districts to provide in-person learning for students at a press conference Tuesday. âItâs important schools follow the safety protocols laid out by NCDHHS,â he said. âThat guidance reinforces in-person learning while maintaining strong public health measures. Students who are ready to return to the classrooms should have that chance,â said Gov. Roy Cooper. CCS, KCS update COVID-19 numbers for week of Jan 25 through Jan 31

Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools reported their updated COVID-19 numbers for the week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 31 on Monday. KCS reported three new cases and 16 new quarantines while CCS reported 61 new cases (19 staffers and 42 students). CCS is not currently releasing quarantine numbers to the public. Kannapolis City Schools remains in Plan C, so no students are on campus, but 743 staff members remain at work in either nutritional or administrative capacities. Superintendent Chip Buckwell, who announced his retirement Monday after 37 years with KCS, released the numbers in his weekly Facebook video. âAs our community keeps moving towards large-scale vaccination, it is still important to continue with all the recommended prevention practices,â he said. âGetting students safely back face-to-face is #KCSEssential.â
