Stella Ford didn t understand why she couldn t see her great-grandfather, Ray Gorton. Despite only being a toddler, she remembered him and the brief moments where she would get to see him at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home through the window.
Johnnie Carson, Ford s grandmother and Gorton s daughter, said Ford experienced some confusion when it came to not being able to see her Papaw. As far as me and my girls, it took a toll on us, Carson said. We were used to seeing him everyday.
The pandemic has definitely left its mark when it comes to negatively impacting mental health across age groups, and children are no exception. According to a parent survey by the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children s Hospital of Chicago, 71% of parents say their children have experienced mental health impacts due to the pandemic. Many believe the decline in their kids mental health comes from social isolation.
