GULF of Alaska, a Mandarin song composed by Malaysian singer-songwriter Firdhaus Farmizi, is so popular online that one of its covers racked up over a million views in just two weeks, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Local singer Priscilla Chai uploaded her own rendition of the song on YouTube and has since garnered 1.56 million views and the numbers continue to grow.
Fans praised Chai’s take on the song, with many requesting for a collaboration between her and Firdhaus.
“It’s so perfect. Firdhaus was the original singer and Priscilla made a female cover. You’re awesome Malaysia!” wrote an internet user.

MALAYSIAN actress Kimmy Low has been getting phone calls harassing her since her contact number was leaked, with one caller claiming to be a rich businessman offering her a huge sum of money to sleep with her,
China Press reported.
She lodged two police reports and held a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
Low, 35, said she was contacted via WhatsApp by a so-called businessman with the surname “Cheng”.
He hinted to her that she would be rewarded if she was willing to go to bed with him.
“My fiance and I felt uneasy after reading (the messages). After discussing this with his parents, we decided that I would continue chatting to find out more about him, ” she said.

It was a sight to behold when Sharul Hafiz Zam, 35, and his wife Nor Azila Azman, 34, were accompanied by their friends who were decked out in traditional Malay outfits during the bersanding ceremony (sitting together on the bridal dais).
Sharul said he had asked Carole Dewandre, 25, from Belgium, and Nahuel Zanetti, 27, from Argentina, to be part of his bridal party.

During the TVB Anniversary Awards 2020 on Sunday, Vincent Wong and Katy Kung emerged as best male and female protagonists respectively among Malaysian viewers, reported
Sin Chew Daily.
Malaysians voted overwhelmingly online for the two – for Wong’s role in Legal Mavericks and for Kung’s role in Death by Zero.
During his acceptance speech, Wong did not forget to thank his Malaysian fans in Malay, saying “Terima Kasih”.
Another winner in the Malaysian award category was police drama Al Cappuccino, which was voted Best Drama. Pat Piu and Winky Lai were voted as Best Supporting Characters in their roles in Hong Kong Love Stories and Al Cappuccino respectively.

THE National Union of Heads of Schools has urged the Education Ministry to allow headmasters to be given autonomy to open their schools in stages, reported China Press.
In an interview, the union’s newly appointed president Lim Bee Khim said she hoped that Year One pupils would be given priority to attend school to get used to the new environment.
“As schools are not allowed to hold welcoming days for our new pupils, they would not have time to get to know the school, the teachers, their classmates, their classrooms and even their seating.
