Four Black, female former assistant principals of Harford County Public Schools have filed a federal lawsuit against the school system, the superintendent and the former president of the administrators’ union, alleging they were discriminated against and demoted without due process.

Students in Harford County schools return from spring break this Wednesday and those in sixth through 12th grade in the county will start going to in-person classes four days a week.
That comes as Harford County continues to have the highest number of coronavirus cases in Maryland.
School Superintendent Sean Bulson says he is watching the coronavirus metrics closely and has no plans to shut down the whole school system, but Dr. Bulson says if there is an outbreak or a staff shortage, individual schools will be closed.
Harford County Health Officer Dr. David Bishai joined the superintendent for a video message last week before students headed off to spring break. Dr. Bishai says about 70% of the school system staff have now been vaccinated.
The Harford County Board of Education is requesting more than $519.5 million in operating funds for local public schools in the next fiscal year a reduction of nearly $2.2 million from what Superintendent Sean Bulson and his administration proposed after HCPS officials learned more about the status of their state funding.
The changes sought by Republican Del. Rick Impallaria would strike the entire House Bill 283 as it was written, and instead have a fully elected school board by six councilmanic districts and another at-large member elected to serve as the board president, mirroring the make-up of the Harford County Council.
