LAHORE: Pakistan perhaps is one of the few countries that is sitting on a huge data mine but not benefiting from it in terms of streamlining development and resource mobilisation.
We are indifferent to available data because the common man has no idea of the revolution that data could bring in our lives and economy. The authentic information is a death knell for vested interests that benefit hugely from opaque ways. Even the elected representatives are not interested in serving their constituencies utilising the tentative data available with National Database Registration Authority (NADRA).

ISLAMABAD: The opposition in the National Assembly Friday protested promulgation of ordinances and called for adopting the path of legislation after consideration by the two Houses of Parliament.
“The government is using promulgation of ordinances to attack institutions like the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, making election laws and extending and reducing the services of people on key posts,” opposition members, including Ahsan Iqbal, Khurram Dastagir Khan and others, said.
Khurram Dastagir said it was the seventh occasion that Imran Khan was attacking institutions. “The Election Commission was attacked with ordinances, then an ordinance regarding the National Finance Commission was promulgated and a situation was created on extension of the army chief in a similar way,” he said. 39 Nadra officials suspended for corruption, Senate told

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Shaukat Ali on Friday informed the National Assembly that ministry had suspended around 39 employees of Nadra for their alleged involvement in issuing fake CNICs in Sindh. Responding to a calling attention notice regarding issuance of bogus Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) in the Sindh by National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), he said that soon after receiving the information, two separate high-level committees of FIA and NADRA were constituted to probe the issue. As a result of FIA’s initial inquiry report, as many as 39 employees were suspended, he added. He further said that out of 39 suspended employees, FIR was registered against 10 employees while five had been arrested.
