Runcorn residents being forced from homes due to insurance costs

The Decks in Runcorn People living in “fire trap” flats on the banks of the Mersey fear being forced out of their homes as insurance costs soar yet again. Residents of The Decks in Runcorn have endured more than a year of anxiety since the six apartment blocks were found to have highly flammable cladding towards the end of 2019. Since then they have faced rising bills for new fire alarms along with the prospect of having to pay tens of thousands of pounds each to replace the cladding while the value of their flats has plunged to zero. In the latest twist, residents learnt late on Friday (January 22) that the cost of insuring the buildings had risen to more than £500,000 – an increase of more than 1,400% since 2019.
