Fearless Girl first faced off against Wall Street’s
Charging Bull, the finance company behind the marketing stunt-turned beloved public artwork has installed shards of glass around the diminutive bronze sculpture in a misguided tribute to women who have broken the metaphorical “glass ceiling” by ascending to top leadership positions in business and politics.

On this day four years ago, the marketing industry was filled with excitement for a new campaign that was launched for International Women’s Day. Titled Fearless Girl, it saw a bronze statue of a young girl quietly installed in front of the famous Charging Bull statue in New York City’s financial district.
The statue was the work of artist Kristen Visbal, who was commissioned by asset management company State Street Global Advisors to create the work, in recognition of its ‘Gender Diversity Index’, which aimed to encourage more diversity in its senior leadership.
Arturo Di Modica was an Italian-born American artist best known for his iconic work
Charging Bull (1989). Installed without permission in front of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street, the artist spent his own money producing the three-ton bronze sculpture. Though he intended the work to bolster the American spirit after the 1987 stock market crash, for some it represents a symbol of the ruthless power of financial institutions. Born on January 26, 1941 in Vittoria, Italy, he left the island of Sicily at the age of 19, to study at the Academia Del Nudo Libero in Florence. In 1973, Di Modica relocated to New York, establishing himself in Lower Manhattan. Despite the illegal installation of his bull statue, people protested to have it remain in a park near Wall Street. Regatta season is fast approaching, with two key school events scheduled for later this month. Thereâs the Head of Schoolgirls Regatta held on March 12-14 on the Barwon River outside Geelong with the Associated Public Schools of Victoria Sport Regatta (mainly boys but which does include girls) on March 20 at Lake Nagambie.
