NORWOOD â The Seaway Career & Technical Education Center in Norwood has announced that Noel Newton is the Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month for February. She is a student in the culinary arts program. She is from the Potsdam Central School District and is the daughter of Kevin and Kimberly Newton.
Culinary arts is a two-year program that provides students with entry-level skills in quantity and quality of food preparation. The program prepares future chefs and food service workers with skills in management, salad preparation, baking procedures (including cake decorating), storeroom management and customer service relations.
Students have the opportunity to become certified in ProStart and ServSafe. There are Dual Enrollment opportunities as well.
CANTON â The Canton Central School District, Massena Central High School and Seaway Career and Technical Education Center switched to remote instruction Tuesday after receiving notification of positive COVID-19 cases.
Canton Central School officials had initially announced that because six drivers were out, they would be fully remote Tuesday and expected to be able to return Thursday.
But on Tuesday afternoon, officials announced in a Facebook post they were notified that a member of the districtâs transportation team tested positive for COVID-19.
Roughly half of the transportation department is now unable to report to work as a result of the case and quarantines from the day prior, according to the post.

NORWOOD â The Seaway Career and Technical Center in Norwood pivoted to remote learning for Thursday and Friday because of âmultiple cases of COVID-19â within the school.
âDue to multiple cases of COVID-19 within our school and limited staffing as a result of mandatory quarantines, we will pivot to remote instruction for the remainder of the week with a return to in-person learning on January 11,â school officials said in a Wednesday Facebook posting.
In a separate post, they said they had been informed of a positive case of COVID-19 among the schoolâs Criminal Justice students.

NORWOOD: The Seaway Career & Technical Education Center announces Samantha Foster as the Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month for December 2020.
She is a student in the Software Development & Business Design Program from Brasher Falls Central School District and is the daughter of David & April Foster.
In the junior year the program, students learn how to develop web pages through the use of computer languages HTML, CSS, and JavaScript along with gaining an understanding of design concepts and how they affect the world of web development.
They are also introduced to more advanced programming skills with PHP and MySQL coding. In addition, they develop websites, web software packages and other computer-based projects.
