2 Pinoy crew members of MV Athens Bridge in critical condition, brought to hospital
Published May 7, 2021 9:36am Two crew members of MV Athens Bridge, which is currently docked in the Philippines, were brought to the hospital for treatment due to COVID-19, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) said Friday. Physicians from the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) on Thursday night boarded the vessel anchored in Manila to assess the condition of the two crew members. They recommended to immediately evacuate the patients. As of press time, the crew members in critical condition have been safely evacuated and brought to the dedicated medical facility for treatment, MARINA said in a press statement.

The national government’s maritime sector came in full force to assist the 12 Filipino crew members aboard MV Athens Bridge who tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after a recent trip from India, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Friday, May 7.

Personnel from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the agency members of the One-Stop Shop (OSS) Port of Manila have joined hands to help all COVID-infected Filipino crew members of the vessel.
MV Athens Bridge departed from India on April 22 and arrived in Haiphong, Vietnam on May 1. There, all of its personnel were subjected to a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

In a statement Friday, May 7, 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) said two of the 12 Covid-stricken crew of MV Athens Bridge are in critical condition. They have been transferred to a hospital in Metro Manila.
The 10 other patients, who manifested mild symptoms of Covid, will be transferred to a quarantine facility together with the rest of the crew, who have been exposed to the virus.
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel from BRP Panglao (FPB-2402) delivered Thursday night, May 6, 10 oxygen tanks to the vessel.
Philippine COVID-infections hit 1.09M

The Department of Health (DoH) reported 7,733 coronavirus infections on Friday, bringing the total to 1.09 million.
The death toll rose by 108 to 18,099, while recoveries increased by 4,227 to over one million, it said in a bulletin.
There were 66,626 coronavirus infections,1.1% of which were critical, 94.4% were mild, 2% did not show symptoms, 1.5% were severe and 0.98% were moderate.
DoH said 20 duplicates had been removed from the tally, 14 of which were tagged as recoveries. It added that 64 recoveries were reclassified as deaths.
About 11.4 million Filipinos have been tested for the coronavirus as of May 5, according to DoH’s tracker website.
