History is all around us and I think we are all guilty of not taking time to notice how much history we have here at the Jersey Shore and in New Jersey. I love history, which was my favorite subject in school, but like I said we all forget to take time and observe and learn about our history right here in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.

This week I finally got around to getting a photo and sharing my admiration for what I’m calling the “cross on the lake”. It’s the illuminated cross on the bank of Lake Pohatcong in Downtown Tuckerton, across from the historic Tuckerton Seaport.

I have seen this image for years as I head out to work in the early pre-dawn hours. I have often wondered what was the back story, so I put it out there to local residents here in Ocean County and as I expected, I had response :)
It turns out the Disbrow family is responsible for building the cross and David Disbrow was kind enough to take time and share the story with us.
For years I have been driving to work around 3:30 am and I see this beautiful sight. A cross that glows along the lakeside of Lake Pohatcong in Downtown Tuckerton. I see it from Route 9 as I pass the Tuckerton Seaport.

I was on what I call a “photo haul” it’s where I go out in OUR communities @nd gather photographs of points of interest for future blogs here at the Jersey Shore. I never know where I’ll end up or what will catch my eye. This particular trip I found myself in Monmouth County and in Freehold a local diner caught my attention.
Diners are so “New Jersey” in fact other places around the country and world try to mimic the “Jersey Diner” and build replica’s. The only true “Jersey Diners” are right here in Jersey. We began looking for the “best” pizza on National Pizza Day (2/9) and we held three rounds of public voting with you, the listeners. We went from over 50 down to 5 and now we have our “final” pie standing.
