Phillip N. Frietze grew up in Mesilla, the son of a U.S. Marine with roots in southern New Mexico that date back to the 1840s. My dad is one of my heroes, said Frietze.
He grew up on the family farm, graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1984, and then worked his way through New Mexico State University. He served in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and earned his degree in 1991 before entering the USMC Officer Candidate School.

Back in 2018, the Corps envisioned up to 15 suicide drones, or loitering munitions, in the hands of infantry units with a mix of abilities ― from warheads for troop and vehicles to electronic attack payload to take out enemy communications or sensor systems. At around the same time, the Corps announced that it would divest of 120 mm mortar systems, leaving a gap of firepower coverage that it hopes loitering munitions could fill.

According to information published on December 19, 2020, Shipbuilders at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, recently lifted into place the second half of the flight deck for U.S. Navy amphibious transport dock Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29).

The USS Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD-29) will be the 13th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship of the United States Navy. She is named after U.S. Navy officer and Medal of Honor recipient Richard Miles McCool, Jr.
