In late October 2012, about a day after Superstorm Sandy’s initial surge battered much of Rhode Island’s coast, especially its open-ocean southern shoreline, Janice Sassi navigated her way through a parking lot filled with “mountains of mud” to find a “moonscape.”
“The dunes were completely flat,” recalled Sassi, manager of the 86-acre Napatree Point Conservation Area. “I thought it was done. It looked like one big beach.”
Sandy had ripped chunks of beachgrass from sections, and one area was forced back some 30 feet. At that moment and for days after, Sassi was concerned about Napatree Point’s future.

âThe contract performance time is 240 calendar days to complete the road improvements based on the scope of work developed under the DPQ21-IFB-003 package, Ada said.
The completion date is Jan. 4, 2022, the notice added.
Any additional work not included in the original contract scope must be approved by the DPW secretary through an authorized contract change order prior to commencement of the work.
âDo not rely on any other form of verbal written approval to perform any additional work,â Ada said. âAny and all expenses incurred prior to the approval of a properly executed contract change order may not be eligible for reimbursements.â
