DISPUTANTA - Have you ever heard of challenge coins? Maybe you or someone you know has earned one in recognition of extraordinary service.
During a follow-up story interview with Three Brothers Distillery co-owner David Reavis, a shadow box display behind the bar caught my attention.
Reavis, who is a retired Navy Submarine Electronics Technician, proudly displays his challenge coin collection.
By: David Larter “The equipment works better when it’s being operated,” he said. In a January 16 email to the crew obtained by Navy Times, Ike’s supply officer, Cmdr. Andrew Henwood, warned sailors that they could only use drinking water for the first 10 minutes of every hour, adding that water, juice, soda and ice machines aren’t available “when potable water is secured.” The officer also noted that laundry service was stopped “until further notice.” While food service was not expected to be impacted, Henwood said his “largest concern” was the “Afloat Mount Trashmore,” mounds of garbage piling up in the aft mess decks that were “a function of the reliance on paper products and the creation of trash exceeding the processing capacity of our Trash Rooms.”

Ankara, Jan 24 (IANS) Turkey has launched its fifth indigenous frigate produced as part of the MILGEM project, a national warship program.
Istanbul Frigate F-515 was designed with national resources, and over 75 per cent of its systems are of indigenous manufacture, according to the Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries.
The 113-meter-long frigate would perform advanced air defence and surface warfare, antisubmarine warfare, and patrol activities, Xinhua news agency quoted the Presidency as saying on Saturday after the launch earlier in the day.
It is expected to be delivered to Turkey s Naval Forces Command in 2023.
To ensure full and efficient vaccine distribution to more than 30 subordinate commands across 32 military medical treatment facilities (MTFs), encompassing nearly 1.2 million people, Fleet Forces Command established the FVC to act as a conduit between vaccine supply and demand.
“The FVC is a high-performing team that ensures our forces get the vaccine as quickly as possible and in DoD-prioritized order. We work closely with our local medical teams, and the leadership in D.C. to ensure every dose is used, and to influence the supply chain to bring us more,” said Rear Adm. Doug Beal, USFFC vice commander and FVC lead.

Turkish officials on Saturday held a ceremony in Istanbul for the launching of the country’s first domestically built frigate attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Hürriyet newspaper reported.
Turkey is among the 10 countries in the world that can design, build and maintain’’ their own warships, Erdoğan said in a speech he delivered at the ceremony to launch the F-515 frigate. We are among the top three or four countries in the production of drones, including combat ones. The whole world is watching our drones with envy, Erdoğan added.
