Twas a fun change of pace, frankly, to log in to the Sunday Daily Commercial fireside in snowy Tucker County, West Virginia, all the while inhaling just one more of Linda Hohman Oliver s well-buttered scratch biscuits under a generous dollop of home-canned blackberry preserves.
Meantime, back in Lake County, my salute-worthy Friday morning associates at WQBW-1410 AM – James The Boss Floyd, Airman Bob Peters and Rick The Senior Colonel Baysinger – did their usual magnificent job (with or without me) in touting Lake and Sumter s selfless veterans … and those who love them.
Thanks, fellas! Fair to say a confab at Sully s Smokehouse is in order. Tab s mine.
As all good things must come to an end, an even better one is coming. Keith Oliver will be returning to LZ Lakehawk next week.
But before I say “farewell,” I’d like to highlight a young man who has had great accomplishments in his high school career and a promising future ahead of him.
Umatilla senior Brayden Price, who commands the school’s Army JROTC battalion, has been awarded a full scholarship to Stetson University in DeLand.

Who doesn’t love a parade?
Seeing all the floats, watching local organizations proudly march with their head held high and pretending that you didn’t grab that piece of candy that was tossed to your child are all definitely at the top of my list.
With the annual Georgefest parade coming up this Saturday in Eustis, you can bet there’s going to be a lot of hometown spirit going on with this year’s theme, “The Spirit of Eustis.”
As the reigning champions for the best float in the Georgefest 2020 parade, local radio station The Q - WQBQ 1410 has decided to honor veterans and first responders in their upcoming float and you’re invited.
As many of you know, I will be filling in for Keith Oliver for the next few weeks. I know, I’ve got some big shoes to fill.
While not a veteran myself, one of the most influential people in my life was my grandfather who was a Korean War veteran and the most patriotic person I knew. His belief in freedom and liberty for all was instilled in me from a young child.
Fun fact - he actually met my grandmother when he broke his back while in the service and she was his nurse, but that’s a story for another time.
