REVEALED: Coast to NZ direct flights returning in months

Premium Content Subscriber only Direct flights from the Sunshine Coast to New Zealand will resume within months and there is hope it could become a year-round service. Sunshine Coast Airport s seasonal Air NZ service will resume on June 28 following the opening of the trans-Tasman travel bubble. Head of corporate relations Ayllie White said given the previous popularity of the seasonal service the airport hoped there was an opportunity for the Auckland flights to set-off all year-round. We know from pre-COVID that the Sunshine Coast was a sought after destination for many New Zealanders who wanted to experience a warmer winter, Ms White said.

Airport to practice serious incident on new runway

Aviation firefighters are set to be called upon to respond, with reports of a fuel leak to be made while an evacuation is carried out for the training exercise. It comes after concerns were raised recently about the ability of emergency services to access a stricken aircraft off the western side of the runway in the boggy area. But those concerns were hosed down by airport sources who said there were no issues with access. More than 50 people are expected to take part in the full field exercise. It is a follow-up to a desktop exercise last December. Sunshine Coast Airport spokeswoman Ayllie White said in the event of an aircraft going off the runway the Airservices Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Services based at the airport would be first responders.
