Scott Martin: Very nice Saturday for Alabama; showers, storms return late Sunday By Scott Martin May 8, 2021 THIS WEEKEND: We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds throughout Alabama on Saturday, but other than that, it will be a near-perfect May day. Afternoon highs will make it into the upper 70s to the lower 80s. Sunday will start off decent through the morning, but winds and clouds will begin to increase during the afternoon, with showers and storms moving in during the evening and late night. Highs will be in the upper 70s to the upper 80s. Southerly winds may gust up to 25 mph at times, so hang on to your hats while outdoors.

We are seeing abundant sunshine with temperatures heading into the upper 60s to lower 70s this afternoon, and it is a bit breezy at times, with a northerly winds in the 10-20 mph range. Tonight will be another chilly May night in Alabama with lows in the 40s. MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND: Tomorrow will be dry and pleasant, with a good supply of sunshine, the high will in the upper 70s. Clouds increase late Sunday, and we will bring showers and thunderstorms back to the forecast late Sunday night ahead of a cold front, but Mother’s Day should be dry. Sunday’s high will be in the low 80s.

Late tonight, a cold front will push into the state and will squeeze out a few scattered showers over North Alabama, but moisture will be limited, rain amounts will be very light and spotty and the rain will actually dissipate as it pushes south through the state. Lows tonight will again return to the upper 40s for much of North/Central Alabama. FANTASTIC FRIDAY: Behind the front, a cooler and drier air mass settles into the state for tomorrow. Expect abundant sunshine with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Also, it will be breezy at times, with a northerly winds in the 10-20 mph range. Friday night will be another clear and cold one as lows fall into the 40s.

There remains some showers and storms down that way, but thankfully much of the state is getting break from the heavy rain. We will see more and more sunshine as we head through the afternoon across the northern half of the state with highs in the 70s. Tonight will be a clear and cool one as temperatures fall back into the upper 40s and lower 50s. TOMORROW/FRIDAY: The weather will remain dry for Alabama tomorrow with ample sunshine and highs again in the mid 70s. Late tomorrow night, a secondary cold front will push into the state and it could squeeze out a few scattered showers over North Alabama, but moisture will be limited, and rain amounts will be very light and spotty. Cooler air moves into the state Friday behind the front, highs will be closer to 70°, under a sky full of sunshine.
