Prince William to unveil memorial sculpture for submariners

THE Submariner Memorial Appeal, supported by BAE Systems in Barrow has announced that renowned British sculptor Paul Day’s creation will be installed at the National Memorial Arboretum and unveiled at a ceremony attended by HRH Prince William. Known for creations like the Battle of Britain Memorial on Embankment and the Meeting Place sculpture at St Pancras, Day’s design for the Submariner community takes its inspiration from the winning entry of a national competition. The Submariner Memorial Appeal, launched a year ago inside the Devonshire Dock Hall under the recently named Astute submarine Anson, is currently raising £375,000 to fund and maintain the memorial, which will replace the current small plaque.
