Govt outlines land conflict hotspots for 2020/21 FY
LAND conflicts pitting herders, farmers and authorities for the 2020/21 financial year were mainly concentrated near or within protected areas, it has been learnt.
Within the period, groups of herders and farmers fought over portions of forest reserves and plots belonging to the National Ranching Company (NARCO), according to the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
Tabling his ministry’s budget estimates for 2021/22 in the National Assembly last week, Livestock and Fisheries Minister Mashimba Ndaki named Coast, Dodoma, Kagera and Kigoma regions and the conflict hotspots for 2020/2021.
And the regions have one thing in common: they have either a forest reserve or underutilized NARCO ranch they invaded and have been fighting over.
