Last week s Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment update on outbreaks of COVID-19 showed a significant drop in newly identified sites, suggesting that the worst might finally be over for retail establishments, health-care centers and other facilities. But no: The latest weekly CDPHE outbreak number is almost double that from just seven days earlier. Moreover, one of the new entries, the Apple Store at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, demonstrates how difficult it is for even the most diligent operations to keep the novel coronavirus at bay indefinitely.
In a November post about COVID-19 safety at malls in Level Red zones, we singled out the Cherry Creek Apple Store as the gold standard for pandemic-era safety: masked staff, monitored access complete with temperatures taken at the door, appointment scheduling, extremely limited capacity and more. If an outlet that s instituted such procedures isn t immune from viral spread, then nowhere is entirely safe and right no
Ouray County Plaindealer
Volunteers continue their tradition of delivering joy to others in Ouray despite the pandemic.
On Christmas Eve, five of Santa’s helpers will don their red velvet suits and adjust their long, fake white beards, smoothing out the tangles before pulling on their hats.
Outside the Elks Lodge in Ouray, they’ll load up their Jeeps and trucks with brown paper bags stuffed with toys and candy, and fan out across the county, winding through narrow streets in town and bumping down icy dirt roads, on their way to surprise children with a visit from the jolly old elf.
A man who briefly served as Ouray Countyâs undersheriff and a former Delta Police Department officer are among those who cannot be certified to work as a peace officer again in Colorado.
State records show Richard Herman, who pleaded guilty to harassment after he was initially charged with propositioning a teenager, and Jeremy Gay, who was found by his agency to have made an untruthful statement, had their certifications revoked by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board.
Gayâs revocation was among six to come about because of a new statutory provision passed in 2019.
Herman was indicted in 2019 on a charge of attempted inducement of child prostitution after an encounter in 2018 with a Montrose teen, who alleged to police Herman had attempted to solicit sexual favors. This sent the youth into a panic; the teen fled and called 911.

Big Thief’s Buck Meek tells us about his Top 10 Swimming Holes of 2020
Buck Meek had a big 2020 planned with his band Big Thief, who had put out two exceptional records in 2019 and were set to tour for most of this year, including headlining a show at Prospect Park as part of the Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival. The pandemic had other plans, though, and Buck found himself with a little more time on his hands. He got things in order for his new solo album,
Two Saviors, that will be out January 15, and he spent a lot of time out in nature.
