The Beautiful Mind Project Honoring Mental Health Awareness Month
The Beautiful Mind Project is encouraging central Minnesotans to wear green on Wednesday for “Green Out Day.”
The organization says the color represents tranquility, good luck, and health. The goal is to show support for people who may be struggling and open up important dialogue surrounding mental health issues.
The Beautiful Mind Project is also hosting their annual Strides Against Stigma 5K Run on Saturday, May 22nd at Rejuv Medical in Waite Park.
Registration fees for the run range from $15 to $25. The event will also include a farmers’ market, food trucks, and inflatables.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt holds a cookout near the Capitol, May 12, 2021, in response to PETA meathead billboard.
As people reading this already know, there are times when a man needs to take the bull by the horns and show his critics who’s boss, and that is exactly what Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt did earlier this week in the aftermath of an attack from the radicals in the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals group, also known as “PETA.”
Stitt, a Republican, announced back in March that March 22-26 would be “#MeatAllWeek” week after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, declared March 20th a “MeatOut Day.” Polis’ actions sparked what the New York Times referred to at the time as a “meat war” in the region, with neighboring state leaders and various cattleman’s associations and the like pushing back by promoting meat consumption and showing support for the agriculture community.

A sign on the side of a cattle truck promotes beef during one of numerous rallies in Colorado in support of “Meat-In Day” on March 20. Proposed 2022 ballot initiative would criminalize artificial insemination and other ranching practices.
Ranchers throughout the West and around the nation are keeping a close eye on a proposed Colorado animal-cruelty initiative that cleared a key procedural hurdle April 7 but faces an uphill battle.
Animal-welfare advocates are trying to place the Protect Animals from Unnecessary Suffering and Exploitation (PAUSE) initiative on the ballot in November 2022. Critics say the measure would ban artificial insemination and other commonly accepted veterinary and animal care practices in Colorado and would ban the slaughter of livestock that have not yet lived more than one-quarter of their anticipated lifetime, which for cattle is about five years.

Many years ago, when Ft. Morgan-based business consultant Cathy Shull was president of the Colorado Rural Development Council, she attended a meeting in Cripple Creek.
Someone in the area had written a play about suicide among rural teens, which featured a few student actors sitting around on hay bales talking about their lives and struggles.
“It was the most eye-opening thing I ever saw,” she recalls now. “That brought the issue into focus for me better than all of the Power Point presentations or articles in the newspaper could have done.”
Shull, who is director of Pro15, an advocacy group for northeastern Colorado, was reminded of its impact during a recent “Plain Talk” webinar she hosted with Meredith Badler, deputy director for Colorado Business Community for the Arts.
