Updated: 3:42 PM EDT Jun 29, 2021 The driver of the car that crashed killing the passenger has been charged with driving under the influence involving death, according to Trooper Joe Hovis, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The accident happened around 6:40 p.m. on Piedmont Golf Course Road near Fairway Drive in Piedmont.Markida Nekendra Blassingame, 39, of Greenville, was a passenger in a car that went off the road and hit several trees, according to Coroner Parks Evans. She died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries, Evans said. Hovis said Travis Robinson, the driver, has been charged with DUI involving death, driving on a suspended license, habitual offender and open container. Hovis said the car was traveling west when it veered off the right side of the road, overturned and struck a tree.Robinson and Blassingame were wearing seat belts, Hovis said.Robinson was taken to the hospital and later booked into the Greenville County Detention Center.
