Richmond Mavericks through to the semi-final of the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup

RICHMOND MAVERICKS are through to the semi-final of the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup after beating Tockwith on penalties. It capped a busy week for Mavs whose game against Richmond Town Reserves last Wednesday was abandoned after their player Ryan Howe dislocated his elbow. The game against Tockwith finished 3-3 after normal time. Sam Pickersgill put the Richmond team ahead from the spot before the visitors pulled one back from a free kick. Pickersgill got his second before the visitors hit back again against the run of play. The striker then got his third from the spot only for Tockwith to level with second to go. Mavs keeper Ethan Lansdell was the hero in the shootout, saving the visitors fifth penalty to secure the win.

Unicorn stay top as Wensleydale Creamery League restarts

THE Wensleydale Creamery League wasted no time in getting restarted after the lockdown, although several of the title contenders still perhaps had their thoughts on Netflix boxsets and decision about which takeaway to order from. League leaders Unicorn – never a team to miss an opportunity to make the league more interesting – remain top despite losing 4-2 to Spennithorne and Harmby. Scott Ryan and Kalem Stanger got on the scoresheet in the first half for Spenni, with two more from Guy Hutchinson and Lee Thompson securing the points for the Wensleydale team. Richmond Mavericks suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Richmond Town Reserves, failing to score in a game for the first time this season.
