Due to someone associated with the Rangeley Town Office testing positive for Covid-19 the Town Office is closed to the public from December 31, 2020 until January 11, 2021. As a result of the office closure the January 4, 2021 Board of Selectmen’s meeting was conducted via Zoom. District 17 State Senator Russell Black briefly joined the Zoom meeting to update the Selectmen on a legislative proposal to expand the number of Franklin County Commissioners from three to five. An increase in the number of Commissioners would provide towns that pay a high County tax such as Carrabassett Valley and Rangeley an opportunity for greater representation in County affairs. The Selectmen agreed to send a letter of support for this legislation in the near future.

Asselin had set Jan. 1, 2021 as his final day on the job. However, Oxford selectmen asked if he would serve in an interim capacity until a new hire is made or through March, which he agreed to do.
“We realize that we are in competition with several Maine towns all looking for a manager and are willing to wait to get the right fit,” Hunter continued. “Oxford has several irons in the fire and the new town manager needs to be able to pick up where Butch leaves off and hit the ground running.”

BUCKFIELD The Town Office, closed since Nov. 17, will remain closed for another two weeks, the Select Board ruled Tuesday evening.
The board decided to extend the closure while new Town Manager John Andrews gets his new office staff trained and up to speed.
Town business came to a halt last month following the resignation of longtime Town Clerk Cindy Dunn, who performed multiple roles for the town for more than 30 years.
Andrews, a state representative in Augusta representing Buckfield, Paris and Hebron in House District 73, was hired by the town in early November following the resignation of Joe Roach, who left in August to become town manager of Rangeley. Mitchell Berkowitz bridged the gap for nearly three months until Andrews’ hiring.
