LOGAN â A host of county officials, state representatives for the area and law enforcement participated in a public forum at the Fountain Place Cinema 8 on Thursday, April 15, to discuss the litter and garbage dumping problem in Logan County.
The forum was hosted by Logan County Commission Diana Barnette, who owns the Cinema 8. The informal event, which Barnette called âLetâs Talk Trash,â lasted nearly two hours.
âSpringtime is when we see all the trash,â Barnette said. âSummertime, things grow up and hides a bunch of the trash, we donât hear much about it. But, we all know itâs a problem, and itâs a shame that, after all these years, litter is still a problem. So, what I wanted to do is put together a panel of the smartest people I know, and you guys, so we could all work on some kind of a collaborative, comprehensive litter control program.â
LOGAN â Police in Logan charged a woman with possession after she was found with a substance that tested positive for fentanyl.
City patrolman M.S. Hall writes in a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court that he responded to the parking lot of Loweâs at the Fountain Place Mall on March 31 over a suspicious woman who was looking inside vehicles.
When he arrived, Hall made contact with the accused, Amber Nicole Means, 28, of Logan, standing on the lumber side of the parking lot.
Hall writes that he observed Means to have âglossy bloodshot eyesâ and that she could not complete a full sentence that made sense.
LOGAN â A man from Utah was once again arrested in Logan recently and charged with attempting to break into vehicles at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Jameel Latif Jouquin, 32, of Salt Lake City, Utah, is charged with automobile tampering, trespassing on posted land and attempted grand larceny.
The incident at LRMC happened at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 7. According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, Deputy J.L. Mathis with the Logan County Sheriffâs Department received a call through Logan County 911 about a man attempting to gain access into several vehicles in the LRMC parking area.
MOUNT GAY â A woman from the Breeden area of Mingo County is accused of trying to bite a West Virginia state trooperâs arm after she was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing at the Kroger grocery store at Mount Gay.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, Trooper First Class M.J. Miller received a complaint through Logan County 911 on Sunday, April 4, that a female was acting disorderly at Kroger the Mount Gay area.
When Miller arrived, he said he saw the woman attempting to open a door of a parked vehicle. Miller made contact with the woman and identified her as Katrina Bryant, 40, of Breeden.
CHAPMANVILLE â A Chapmanville man was arrested after police responded to a call about a man going through abandoned apartments at Commerce Park and several substances were found on him, one of which tested positive for fentanyl.
The arrested was made April 1 by Patrolman E.C. Ferrell. The caller who made the complaint said a man wearing a gray sweatshirt was carrying multiple trash bags, according to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court.
When Ferrell arrived, he reportedly observed a man fitting the description outside the abandoned apartments. The man identified himself as Billy Joe Jeffrey, 29, of Chapmanville.
