Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy passed for 1,440 yards and 16 touchdowns without an interception in six games this season for the top-ranked team in the country.
On Wednesday, he will become Michigan’s highest-ranked quarterback signee since Ryan Mallett in 2007. McCarthy, the No. 22 overall prospect and No. 2 quarterback in the 2021 class, per 247Sports’ Composite rankings, will ink his letter of intent with the Wolverines on Wednesday when the early signing period begins.

With one game left in an abbreviated season, Michigan’s football team finds itself in a familiar spot with its quarterback situation.
Redshirt freshman Cade McNamara had to be taken out the Wolverines’ last game on Nov. 28, suffering from a debilitating shoulder injury that was expected to sideline him for a lengthy period of time. How long, however, is unclear.
