Lawyers for “Tiger King” Joe Exotic were so confident that he would be pardoned by President Donald Trump that they had a limousine on standby.
But it was all for naught as Trump granted clemency to 143 people, and the list did not include the star of the Netflix documentary series.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, Exotic, 57, whose real name is Joe Maldonado-Passage, became a breakout star thanks to the popularity of the eight-part series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.”
On Donald Trump’s last day as president, he announced 73 pardons and granted 70 other people clemency a long-awaited list that people knew was coming, but could only speculate about who would be included. The pardons were a slew of last-minute moves Trump made the day before Biden’s inauguration, and while some of the names were unsurprising, the outgoing president still provided plenty of baffling people on his list. Shockingly, Trump’s.
In 2019, Exotic was convicted for illegally killing five endangered tigers, the illegal trade of endangered species and a murder-for-hire plot that targeted rival animal sanctuary owner Carole Baskin. He continued to claim his innocence this week. Love told BBC News, ”We have evidence that vindicated Joe.”

Joe Exotic is in jail on a 22-year sentence. He claimed a federal conspiracy had landed the disgraced zoo agent in prison, but did not provide compelling evidence. Regardless, he said he was convinced Exotic would be on Trump’s final pardons list. Upon release, Love said Exotic would get his hair done.
