Auburn students get summer lessons with lemonade stand

Daryn Slover/Sun Journal AUBURN Just 30 minutes before closing time at 3 p.m. Tuesday, students taped up a sign on their lemonade stand that said “sold out.” The children in the Family Development neighborhood on Valerie Circle were participating in a math lesson under the watchful eyes of four educators from Auburn Public Schools. Kim Bianco, Alice Crawford, Nurta Hade and Melissa Sundell have been working with students on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the month of July on reading and math skills. Anywhere from five to 25 kids will show up to the neighborhood’s recreation center on any particular day, said Sundell of Park Avenue Elementary School.

Dunedin seamstress makes Navy uniform for WWII veteran

Updated: 10:39 PM EDT July 9, 2021 DUNEDIN, Fla A WWII Navy veteran now has his dream uniform thanks to the help of one seamstress in Dunedin. CBS Steve Hartman visited Joe Hall, who served in World War II as a Navy Petty Officer First Class.  Why does a 97-year-old need a Navy uniform? Steve Hartman asked during the On the Road segment.  I love the uniform, Hall replied. I love my country and I m so happy I was able to serve.   Hartman says Hall was on a destroyer escort during the war and made life-long friendships while also losing brothers in arms.

In his younger years, Hall served in World War II as a Navy Petty Officer First Class.   I love the uniform. I love my country and I m so happy I was able to serve, he said.  He was on a destroyer escort, where he made some of the best friends of his life and lost a few, too. They re all gone now,  which is why Joe wanted that uniform for when he sees them again.

Vermilionville s live concert series returns Sunday KATC and last updated 2021-07-07 17:58:55-04 LAFAYETTE, La. – Vermilionville hosts a live concert series on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of each month. Sunday, July 11 will feature Donna Angelle & Zydeco Posse. The concert series is held in Vermilionville’s Performance Center venue from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History Museum. Come early and grab lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman. The restaurant is open every Sunday from 11 a.m-2 p.m. and features authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. On Sundays, the restaurant features an all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet.
